JJ Kennedy CEO of Evil Genius Interactive & Evil Genius TV

EGI was founded by JJ Kennedy, MBA and former VP of Internet Marketing and eCommerce at Pitney Bowes, a Fortune 500 company with over $5 Billion in yearly sales. Recruited explicitly to take over Pitney’s entire army of 300 internet sites as well as all eMarketing and eCommerce functions, JJ was able to put in place the teams, procedures, and technologies to capture over $200 Million in online sales in just 2 years.

Prior to starting EGI, JJ was a Principal of the investment division of Action Real Estate and one of the most succesful producers in Gainvesille history with over $35 Million in single year sales, due largely in part to a complete marketing and strategy overhaul of common methodologies.

So what exactly does Evil Genius Interactive do?

The best way to think of EGI is as your on-call VP of Marketing.  While many small businesses don’t need or simply can’t afford one full time, trying to do everything yourself without the experience is like OJ without a trial lawyer…not a good plan.  You have a CPA, you have a lawyer - Same concept.

As any good VP has, I came up the ranks and earned my dues the old-fashioned way.  I’ve done everything myself and that gives me the dual bonus of both being able to do the basic stuff myself (websites, design, programming, writing, etc) but it has also given me a rolodex full of partners to call when it is time to bring in the experts for any particular need.

  • Need a stunning design for an important brochure – got it.
  • A world renouned expert on drip email campaigns – got it
  • A developer capable of integrating 37 customer databases – got it.
  • Have to be #1 in the search engines in a crowded market – can do.

As such, MY focus is threefold:

  • Marketing & Business Strategy & Implementation
  • Marketing Creative – Websites, Blogs, identity kits, Flash development, brochures, direct mail, social media, Search Engine Marketing, video, you name it
  • Content /Writing- Web content, article marketing, ebooks, whitepapers, brochures, blogs

So why the change at EGI?

During the last few years I have been splitting my time between working as Vice President of Marketing at Action Real Estate and running Evil Genius Interactive which was responsible for much of the marketing work for larger clients at Action.  I (and occasional staffers) created a multiude of marketing campaings that included everything from websites to direct mail, TV advertising to corporate sponsorhips, social media to telemarketing…and everything in between.

These days it sounds a bit cliche, but I really am a marketing “jack of all trades”. It does keep me from being the ultimate guru in any one area, but it also means that I can do (or have the contacts to do) pretty much anything you could ever dream of needing when it comes to marketing any type of product or service.

So how do we work together?

I will be taking on a limited number of new clients until the booking hours are full (which, trust me, won’t be a lot).  My goal is to establish a stable of 10-20 businesses that I work with on a regular basis going forward.  I’ve always enjoyed and had the best results when I can take the time to get to know a company, its team, and help build a plan of action to reach their goals, and stick around to make sure that goal is realized.  Some may be project based, some straight billable consulting, others with potential I may be interested in partnering with.  It will be on a case-by-case basis.

About Me (JJ Kennedy)

I hold an MBA from the Univeristy of Rhode Island with a specialty in marketing and information systems.   I also hold dual bachelors in Marketing and Psychology from the MA College of Liberal Arts.  I began my career as a webmaster and eventually moved up the ranks as an internet marketing manager, product manager, internet director and eventaully became the Vice President of Internet and eMarketing at Pitney Bowes…..alas the corner office, cherry desk, secretary, and trophy house…..and ultimately…. hated it.
